10 Mini Lesson-

  • Last week we started looking at The American Dream as it relates to our family history AND/OR how it relates to immigration and refugees in America.
  • Going forward, we’re going to look at The American Dream as relates to life in America.  So what does our opening prompt have to do with The American Dream?
  • One way is the idea of something called- Transcendentalism – The Idea that you can rely on just yourself. Total freedom and independence. 
    • Henry David Thorough and Henry Emerson
    • Basically- they loved nature and they wanted people to be happy just living in nature and simplicity.

Fill out our handout together.

  • Class Work-
    • In Pairs-
    • Look for evidence of Transcendentalism from our handout and in the Comic Strips below-
    • Go to the following site on comics.
    • Stick to Boondocks, Calvin and Hobbs, and Peanuts.
    • Look for examples of Transcendentalism in these Comics and fill them into your handout.
    • If you haven’t finished your Transcript from last week, that counts as your homework for the week before break! So continue that.
  • Homework starts again tonight!!
