  • “George said, ‘He’s my…cousin. I told his old lady I’d take care of him…But he can do anything you tell him.” P.22

  • What does this quote reveal about George and Lennie’s relationship?

  • Main Idea- In Chapter II of Of Mice And Men, the author keeps the relationship between George and Lennie ambiguous (unclear)
  • Evidence- When George tell’s their new boss that Lennie is “…my…cousin.” it shows that he doesn’t want to make an honest comment on their relationship.
  • Analysis- By putting the ellipses, the author shows the George is pausing when before explaining the relationship. It shows that George is not being honest in his statement, and only telling the boss something that would not lead to more questions.
  • Transition- Therefor, the author keeps the relationship between George and Lennie unclear to the reader and the other characters in the text.
