  • Looking at the short answer format using Multiple Quotes-
  • Model – This is how I might answer this question.

Topic Sentence-

In Chapter 4 of Of Mice And Men, Crooks tortures Lennie by telling him that George is not coming back to the ranch, not because Crooks is really mean, but because Crooks is lonely and feels Isolated.

For example, on p. 73 Crooks breaks from the torture to explain “I was talkin about  myself. A guy sets alone here at night…” He basically admits that he is just messing with Lennie because he himself is alone. As the only black man in the land of white ranchers, Crooks clearly feels isolated.

This is similar to the poem, The Song of Isolation by Nimal, because the old man in the story also feels isolated and is angry about it. In the poem he shouts at the birds “My little migrant birds I am bit scared as the bombers are flying around and when you could release from your dungeons?” This shows that he feels trapped in isolation in his home and wants to be able to fly like the migrant birds.

Spend 5 minutes answering the question, OR you can copy mine if you’re unsure.
